If you didn't like the idea of a coal mine at Margaret River then you are really going to like this idea. For those of you who reside outside the Peel region you may not be aware of a proposal by a developer to dredge a channel 2.5kms long,100 metres wide and 3 metres deep in the Internationally RAMSAR listed Peel-Harvey Estuary. This channel will connect to a land based 3 metre deep marina. The estuary ranges in depth from a maximum of 1.9 metres down to extensive areas of just 300ml.The majority of the estuary would be less than 1 metre deep.So why does it need access for vessels up to 20 metres long. Any spoil from maintenance dredging and it will be significant will be sidecast back into the estuary and the damage under water from this action will be significant. Please take the time to read the attached submissions to get an understanding of the potential outcomes from this proposal. Since European settlement there have been some stunning environmental blunders made in industrial, rural and urban development, some can be partially reversed(at GREAT COST to the TAXPAYER) but many are beyond hope. If you have had the pleasure of enjoying the recreational value of the Peel-Harvey Estuary(boating, crabbing, fishing) and you would like your children, grand children, great grand children to also have that pleasure then contact the WA Minister for the Environment Bill Marmion at www.bill.marmion@mp.wa.gov.au  and express your objection to this proposal. This proposal also needs the approval of the Federal Minister Tony Burke www.tony.burke.mp@aph.gov.au    Minister Burke will be in WA in July ironically to accept a recently completed report that shows the Peel-Harvey Estuary to be in a state of serious decline. Also contact your local and federal members of Parliament because just like the coal mine this doesn't need to happen.
